Dr Richardson graduated MBBS from Sydney University in 1978 and undertook surgical training at Westmead Hospital from 1980 to 1986. In 1986 he was an assistant in surgery at Lille University, France, with Professor Charles Proye, in endocrine surgery, and in 1987 he was an assistant in surgery at Hospital Cochin, Paris, France dealing mainly with vascular surgery, endocrine surgery and liver transplantation. From 1988 to 1990 he was lecturer in surgery at Oxford University, mainly in vascular surgery and transplant surgery. He returned to Westmead Hospital in 1990 as a staff specialist surgeon, and became a visiting medical officer at Sydney Adventist Hospital and Westmead Hospital in 1995. Dr Richardson has broad training in all aspects of general and vascular, however his major interests are in gastrointestinal surgery (including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hepatic, pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancer), arterial and venous surgery. He is a past examiner in General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and past chairman of the NSW State Committee of the RACS. Research Interests: Dr Richardson is the author or co-author of approximately 40 scientific papers. His major research interests are hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery, particularly where there are vascular implications. Within vascular surgery, his major interests are in complex aortic and suprarenal aortic surgery, carotid disease, varicose veins and congenital vascular anomalies. He also performs a large volume of routine general surgery such as hernia repairs. |
